Professor Dr. Hj. Mohd Nizam Isa is the Senior Vice President of Higher Education and International Relations at Bostonweb Academy and responsible for the academics development of Bostonweb College. With his illustrious career and remarkable experiences and achievements spanning over twenty five years he has formulated strategies to propagate its reorganization and expansion in ensuring that Bostonweb College is the reputable, excellence, internationally recognized and profitable institution of higher learning in the region.
Professor Dr. Mohd Nizam received his Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Sciences from Andrews University in Michigan, USA and his Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Molecular Genetics from Medical Faculty, University of Glasgow, Scotland. He is a specialist in Human Molecular Medicine, Clinical Cytogenetics and Genetic Counseling, Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology. Professor Dr. Mohd Nizam has proven records of excellent in teaching, genomic research, student counseling, academic administration, research development, management and consultancy in public and private universities.
He started his career as a lecturer and Associate Professor in the School of Medical Sciences at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He was formerly the Provost and Vice President of Academics, Research and Development of Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) from 2007–2009. Prior to this appointment he was a Professor and Post Graduate Dean at the International Medical University (IMU), Senior Professor at the Medical Faculty, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), visiting professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL) and many other institute of higher learning. He traveled widely across the globe as invited speakers, scientific chairperson and in pursuing his research interest. He was a visiting scientist, professor and principal investigator at the research institutions and universities in Japan, Korea, Pakistan and Thailand.
With his scholastic and visionary leadership qualities, he had successfully developed 15 innovative baccalaureate and master degree curriculums in Information Technology (IT), Engineering, and Biosciences integrated with Entrepreneurial programmes for MUST. All these programmes had been approved and accredited by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). Among his notable achievements were the establishment of the first clinical genetics laboratory and the Founding Director of the Human Genome Centre in Malaysia during his tenureship as an Associate Professor at the School of Medical Science at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). As the Quality Assurance Manager he had meticulously contributed to the award of ISO 9001:2000 certification of the Medical Faculty of UiTM. He had received many international awards including the Fellowships of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) Committee of Science and Technology (COMSTECH), Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Human Genome Organization (HUGO) grants, Japanese Society for the Promotional of Science (JSPS) and Japan MONBOSHU scholarship. He is a founding member of the Asia-Pacific Society of Human Genetics and the Malaysian Genetics Society where he was the Vice-President from 2003–05 and a member of many professional societies including the Malaysian Society of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB) and American Society of Medical Genetics (ASMG).
His 25 national and international research grants received over the years bear testimony to his stature as a pre-eminent scientist and researcher in Molecular Medicine. He has written extensively with 4 books to his credit as well as 270 refereed articles, proceedings and abstracts in the genomics of brain tumours, neurological disorders, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. His current research interest is in the field of molecular medicine and personalized nutrigenomics.
Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizam is indeed one of the foremost scholar, scientist and academic leader in higher education. Recently, he was awarded the Fellowship in Business Administration by the Oxford Centre of Learning (OXCEL) Asia in recognition of his contributions in private education. To date he has supervised more than 50 masters of science graduates and doctorates in related field of molecular genetics. He is passionate and committed in generating technologically competent and innovative holistic human capital for the nation development and economic prosperity. He takes pride to have an opportunity to motivate and facilitate students and young graduates to be highly knowledgeable and skillful in the state of art of the cutting-edge technology, management and entrepreneurships.
